What is the "Sleep Well + 900 Minutes" education session and challenge?

The purpose of this 6-week challenge and on-site education session is to help employees establish long-lasting sleep and physical activity habits.  

This challenge and education session helps employees improve their productivity, reduce workplace safety risks, and improves thinking and problem solving.

"Sleep Well + 900 Minutes" On-Site Education Session Details

Sleep is one of the most overlooked areas of health. It aids in weight loss, prevents disease, affects mood and memory. In this education session, we teach the "why?" behind sleep. Additionally, we provide information on good sleep hygiene and how to realistically implement good sleeping habits.

During the second part of the session we teach your employees about physical activity, particularly how regular exercise is one of the best lifestyle choices an individual can make. Sleep and physical activity are a natural pair because when you do one the other becomes easier to do.

NOTE: This education session has a 9.2 net promotor score (i.e. when asked the likeliness to recommend this education session to family and friends, the average score across all education sessions is 9.2 on a 1-10 scale)!

"Sleep Well + 900 Minutes" 6-Week Challenge Details

  • Employees choose 3 of 4 sleep goals to complete throughout this 6-week challenge. For two weeks employees focus on one of their three goals. After two weeks, employees focus on another sleep goal for two weeks.

  • In addition to specific sleeping goals, employees will also complete the minimum recommendation for aerobic activity each week throughout the challenge (150 min./week = total of 900 minutes).

Why should I implement the "Sleep Well + 900 Minutes" education session and challenge?

Did you know U.S. workers are sleeping 1.5 hours less each night compared to a few decades ago? In fact 1/3 of U.S. workers are chronically sleep deprived! 

Not getting enough sleep limits creativity, problem solving, performance, and decreases workplace safety and morale. In fact a study on sleep and U.S. workers' performance found that insomnia causes the equivalent of 11.3 days of lost productivity per year. 

Another study from Harvard Medical School found that insomnia may be the reason for more than 274,000 occupational accidents in the U.S. and costs about $31 billion per year.

Promoting good sleeping habits is essential to a well environment! In addition, physical activity is one of the best lifestyle choices an individual can make and can improve sleep quality. Individuals with good sleep habits find it easier to exercise and in turn, continue to sleep better. 

What does implementing this education session and challenge look like?

The 6-week challenge kicks off with the onsite education session on sleep and physical activity. The education session is most successful at encouraging employee participation in the challenge when it is given the week before the challenge starts.

Prior to the start of the challenge employees sign-up to participate. Each week of the challenge participants will receive weekly reminders to help them stay on track. At the end of the 6-week challenge participants submit their completed challenge tracker.
